After University, I spent a little time with Marconi, and then joined (the then) Post Office Telecomms, later to become British Telecom. The last 10 of the 20 years there was spent in the engineering bit of their cable television division - great fun, away from the rather structured mainstream BT. Then BT backed out of CATV about 12 years ago, so I left them to work in the private CATV industry. Again, fun, with lots of travel across Europe and the US, but oh so volatile. So, 4 redundancies later, I decided that enough was enough. At the same time, Sarah's company, for whom she had worked for over 20 years was about to be taken over (and subsequently smothered as it turns out), so we moved here to France. Best move that we ever made! Provence is wonderful. We have a letting gite which sleeps 4, and a couple of double B & B rooms in the main house. Sarah and I have been married since 1967, and lived and worked in the south-east until our move here 2 years ago. No family, but a kitten and a bi-lingual dog.
We are sorry to report that Ian died on February 7th, 2005 of cancer.
